What’s new in SAP Business One version 10?

APH SAP B1 v10

The latest version of SAP Business One promises a range of exciting new tools and improvements, mostly based directly on customer feedback. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new, and how to get the most out of this latest version.

Look and feel

Perhaps the most immediately obvious changes are those to the look and feel of the platform, thanks to a new ‘skin’ and style. Your company name is now displayed cleanly at the top of the screen so if you are managing multiple company’s databases you can navigate smoothly between them.

Production and project management

At all stages of the production and project management process, this new version of SAP Business One introduces some handy enhancements. Updated item descriptions are now, for example, added to Bill of Materials, making the production management process simpler and more transparent. You can also drill down more easily from the Bill  of Materials to the Item Master Data, so it is simpler to navigate between screens, and easier to create more accurate product descriptions.

On the project management side, newly-introduced Interactive Gantt Chart enhancements enable you to drag and drop different project phases and timelines, quickly shortening and extending different phases and experimenting with timescales. Update the project and changes will be automatically updated along all relevant Gantt Charts – and there are different functions for planning new projects and logging existing ones.

Inventory management

The new version of SAP Business One makes it easier and more convenient to manage serial and batch numbers. There are options to update A/R Reserve Invoices and Inventory Transfer Requests. Furthermore, newly added fields for Destination Warehouse Code and Destination Warehouse Name mean improved transparency across Inventory Transfer transactions. There is also improved flexibility when it comes to changing the Unit of Measure Group on the Item Master Data. All this means that inventory management is easier, more efficient and offers more visibility.

Financial management

Financial processes are at the heart of how must businesses use their ERP systems, and here SAP Business One has made several powerful enhancements.

Firstly, the new version makes it easier to post period enhancements, with a new checkbox added to the posting period window. This makes it easier to define the default due date when you are putting together new timetables. Second, the new version has extended journal entry remarks, so you can describe each transaction in more detail if necessary. And third – and perhaps most importantly – you can now drill down to G/L (General Ledger) accounts in your financial reporting.

This offers direct access to customer account details and balances in an easy way, and improves the scope of charts of accounts or collections of all general ledger accounts used by your organisation.

Sales and purchasing enhancements have also been made as part of these broader financial management improvements. You can now hide empty lines in addresses in your sales and marketing documents in the system and in printed documents, which make processing easier. A/R Reserve Invoices are displayed in the Back Order Report, granting better visibility into reporting.

Other improvements

The improvements in version 10 don’t stop there. The latest version also includes new localisation for the UK and Northern Ireland, including relevant tax modules. It includes Microsoft 365 integration with OneDrive, so you can export documents and reports into Word or Excel. And it includes a range of security enhancements, including Database Instance Registration and Company Database Configuration and Data Access.
